Magnesium hydroxide, also known as caustic magnesite, light burned magnesia, etc., suspension of magnesium hydroxide in water is called magnesium hydroxide emulsion, or magnesium emulsion for short.  Magnesium hydroxide is a new type of filling flame retardant. It can reduce the surface temperature of the composite material it fills in the flame by releasing the bound water and absorbing a large amount of latent heat when it is heated. It has the function of inhibiting the decomposition of polymer and cooling the combustible gas produced.  Magnesium hydroxide is recognized as an excellent flame retardant with three functions of flame retardant, smoke suppression and filling in rubber and plastic industry.

According to a report released by Future Market Insights, global demand for magnesium hydroxide will reach 943,300 tons in 2022, up 4.6 percent year-on-year.  China is the largest producer, consumer and exporter of magnesium hydroxide, with a total revenue of $143.4 million, up from $133 million in 2015.  Outlook: The global magnesium hydroxide market is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 5.8% and generate revenues of us $1 billion from 2016 to 2026.  The Asia-Pacific region will continue to be the largest market with a revenue share of 38.1% in 2026.

Environmental uses of magnesium hydroxide, including sewage treatment and flue gas desulfurization, will continue to stimulate demand, accounting for 47.1% of revenue in 2016.  The use of flame retardants will see a high growth rate of 4.4 percent, accounting for 21.8 percent of total revenue.  In addition, the use of magnesium hydroxide as a neutralizer in the pulp and paper industry will be strengthened.
