Do you know what the properties and applications of magnesium oxide are?

Magnesium oxide is a white amorphous powder. Odorless, tasteless and non-toxic. The relative density is about 3.58 (25°C). Melting point 2852℃, boiling point 3600℃. Hardly soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol, soluble in acid or ammonium salt solution. After burning at high temperature above 1000 ℃, it can be transformed into crystals. When the temperature rises above 1500°C, it becomes dead-burned magnesia or sintered magnesia. In case of carbon dioxide in the air, it will generate basic magnesium carbonate.

Uses of Magnesium Oxide

1. Light Magnesium Oxide can be used to produce magnesite products. For example, magnesite cement, as a new type of cement, has the advantages of light weight, high strength, heat insulation and fire protection, environmental protection and energy saving, and is widely used in building materials, municipal administration, agriculture, machinery and other fields.

2. It can be used in the processing of advanced lubricating oil, as a cleaning agent, a vanadium inhibitor, and a desulfurizing agent, which greatly improves the compactness and rheology of the lubricating film.

3. It can be used as food additive, color stabilizer and pH adjuster for health care products and food.

Light Magnesium Oxide

4. Light Magnesium Oxide can be used in the field of biopharmaceuticals as antacids, adsorbents, complex filter aids, etc., which can inhibit and relieve gastric hyperacidity.

5. Magnesium oxide also has good magnetic permeability and insulation.

6. It is the standard for white pigments. Light magnesia can be used as a raw material to prepare ceramics, enamels, refractory crucibles and refractory bricks.

Precautions for using magnesium oxide

1. If it is exposed to the air, it will easily absorb moisture and carbon dioxide and gradually become basic magnesium carbonate.

2. Patients with renal insufficiency should use it with caution or as directed by a doctor.

3. Patients with atrioventricular block should be used with caution or as directed by a doctor.
